Short answer: Once your order is confirmed, Brimar sends you a digital layout sheet to place your artwork on. You put your design in the layout, send it back, and we return a full-color, to-size, high-resolution proof for you to sign and approve before we print.

Step 1: Start with our layout sheet

Every custom box is a different size, so don’t design on a guess. After you confirm your order, we supply a digital layout sheet sized to your box. Placing your artwork in that layout makes sure your logo lands where you expect on the lid, sides and base.

Step 2: Remember the paper wraps around edges

A set-up box is made by wrapping paper around a cardboard tray and folding it over the edges. That means:

  • Artwork near an edge will turn the corner, so keep logos and text away from the edges and corners.
  • Background colors and patterns should run past the edge of the panel so there’s no white gap after wrapping. Printers call this extra artwork “bleed.” Brimar needs 1/8″ of bleed.

Step 3: Send the right kind of file

Here’s what we need:

  • File type: A high-resolution PDF, or an Adobe Illustrator (AI) or EPS file.
  • Resolution: At least 300 dpi for photos and other images.
  • Fonts: In AI and EPS files, convert all fonts to outlines so the text prints exactly as you designed it.
  • Color: For four-color process printing, set up your file in CMYK. For a straight-color job (printing with specific ink colors), submit your art in those straight colors. If you’re using exact brand colors, tell us the PMS (Pantone) numbers.

Send your art files to sales@brimarpackaging.com or through our Send Files – Quote Request page.

Step 4: Decide on printing and finishes

Brimar offers process printing (four-color “CMYK” printing for photos), simple one- or two-color line art, foil stamping, embossing and debossing, and varnish, aqueous, UV or film-lamination coatings, inside and out. One- or two-color line art is the most cost-effective. Read The Manufacturer’s Guide to Custom Box Graphics or our Graphics page to compare options.

Step 5: Check and sign your proof

We’ll send a full-color, to-size, high-resolution art proof. Check spelling, colors, logo position and which way the artwork faces on the lid. Sign and return it. Production is scheduled after artwork approval, so a quick, careful approval keeps your order moving. See Our Order Process.
