Short answer: Brimar can make custom inserts from chipboard, peachboard, vinyl, foam and vacuum-formed plastic, plus loose fill such as crinkle paper, wood wool and jeweler’s fiber. The best choice depends on your product, how much protection it needs, and how many boxes you’re ordering.

What an insert does

An insert holds your product in place inside the box. It stops items from sliding around, protects them in shipping, and presents them neatly when the lid comes off. It can also let one box hold several different products.

Insert options

  • Chipboard platform: A flat raised “floor” that lifts your product off the bottom of the box. Common in gift certificate boxes. It needs no cutting die, so it’s an inexpensive choice.
  • Die-cut chipboard: Shaped cavities are cut into chipboard so each item sits snugly. An inexpensive way to secure a few items.
  • Tray insert: Great when similar-sized items pack together. No tooling needed, so it suits smaller orders.
  • Partition insert: A grid of dividers for bulk-packing several items in one box.
  • Die-cut peachboard or velboard: A soft, velvety-feeling board that adds a touch of elegance, available in a variety of colors and textures.
  • Die-cut foam: Extra protection for fragile products, in many colors.
  • Vacuum-formed plastic: Molded to the shape of your product for excellent protection and a polished presentation. It becomes affordable on larger orders, and we can match PMS colors.
  • Loose fill: Crinkle paper, wood wool and jeweler’s fiber for a gift-style look.

Chipboard inserts come in 0.030″ to 0.100″ board in chip, white, chocolate or black, and can be laminated with plain or printed paper.

How to pick

  • Light product, simple look? A chipboard platform or tray.
  • Several pieces that must stay in place? Die-cut chipboard or foam.
  • Fragile or heavy? Die-cut foam or vacuum-formed plastic.
  • High-end presentation? Peachboard, foam or vacuum-formed plastic.
  • One box for many products? We can design several inserts (and printed wraps or belly bands) that share the same box.

Quantity matters too: tray and platform inserts suit small runs, while vacuum-formed plastic works best on larger orders.

Already have boxes?

We’re custom box makers first, so we seldom make inserts without the boxes. But if you bought boxes elsewhere and need inserts, contact us anyway.
