Short answer: Brimar’s two-piece rigid set-up boxes are made mostly of paper and cardboard, including recycled cardboard, recycled paper and recycled tape, with non-solvent glue and inks, and our paper products are 100% recyclable. Some add-ons, like plastic or foam inserts, should be removed before recycling. If your box has foil or film lamination, check your local recycling rules.
What a Brimar set-up box is made of
- Chipboard: The cardboard core, which is made from recycled fiber.
- Paper wrap: The outer “skin,” made of recycled paper.
- Tape and glue: Recycled tape and non-solvent glue.
- Inks: Non-solvent inks.
Brimar’s goal is to promote both the reuse and the recyclability of all our products. In recent years we have designed more boxes and packaging materials using over 93% post-consumer waste (recycled material that people have already used and thrown away) while keeping our paper products 100% recyclable. That includes our set-up boxes.
The most eco-friendly option
For the greenest look, we can make a completely recycled, natural kraft-look box by pairing natural kraft paper with natural chip cardboard. It’s a good fit if you want your packaging to show your customers that you care about the environment.
Reuse counts too
Rigid lid-and-base boxes are sturdy, so people often keep them to store jewelry, photos, keepsakes or office supplies. A box that gets reused for years keeps your brand in sight and stays out of the trash.
Tips for an easier-to-recycle box
These are general tips; local recycling rules vary.
- Choose paper-based inserts (chipboard platforms, trays or partitions) when your product doesn’t need foam or plastic.
- Check local rules for foil and lamination. Recycling programs treat foil-stamped, foil-paper and film-laminated packaging differently, so check with your local recycling program, or ask us when you plan your box.
- Tell customers how to recycle: a small “please recycle” note on the base helps.
- Separate materials: foam, vinyl and vacuum-formed plastic inserts should be removed before the box goes in the recycling bin.
Made in USA helps, too
Buying American-made boxes made from American raw materials also means shorter shipping distances than importing packaging from overseas.
